Foreign Trade Management
Foreign Trade Management is the planning, implementation, supervision and execution of goods, services and capital flows of a business or country with international markets in accordance with legal regulations. Unlike domestic trade, different customs regimes, foreign exchange regulations, international transportation (logistics) and different legal systems are involved. Workcube's Foreign Trade Module enables the development of trade with foreign markets. Import and export transactions are followed up. Goods receipts of imported products are recorded in the system.
Foreign Trade has two main pillars;
Export: It is the sale of goods or services produced by a company in one country to the buyer in another country and thus providing foreign exchange inflow to the country.
Import: The purchase of goods produced abroad in accordance with customs legislation and bringing them into the country in order to meet local needs.
Basic Steps of Import and Export Processes
1. Preparation and Agreement Phase
Market Research & Customer Finding: The exporter or importer determines the target market and communicates with the buyer/seller.
Proforma Invoice (Offer): A preliminary offer document is prepared, including price, quantity, delivery and payment terms.
Sales Contract: The parties sign a formal contract by agreeing on delivery time, dispute resolution and product details.
2. Delivery and Payment Methods
Delivery Methods (INCOTERMS 2020): Determines the transportation cost and where the risk will pass from the seller to the buyer.
Ex: FOB (The risk of the goods is on the seller until they are loaded on the ship), CIF (The seller pays the freight and insurance), EXW (The goods are delivered at the factory
Payment Methods: Determined according to the degree of risk.
Advance Payment:The risk lies entirely with the buyer.
Consignment/Open Account: The goods are received, payment is made later (the risk is on the seller).
Letter of Credit (L/C): It is the safest international payment method that protects both the buyer and the seller, with banks acting as intermediaries.
3. Preparation of Operations and Documents
While the transaction is taking place, it is necessary to prepare some official documents completely:
Commercial Invoice:Sales document.
Packing List: A list showing how many products and how many kg are in the boxes/pallets.
Certificate of Origin: Document proving in which country the product was produced.
Bill of Lading: The bill showing the delivery and ownership of the goods to the transportation company.
4. Customs Clearance and Logistics
Customs Declaration: Submitting a declaration to the system through an authorized customs consultant so that the goods can pass through customs.
Taxation and Permits: On import, customs duty, VAT, SCT and, if any, surveillance/quota documents or TSE/Agricultural approvals are completed according to the GTIP (Customs Tariff Statistics Position) code of the product. In exports, tax exemptions and government incentives (DIIB - Inland Processing Permit Certificate, etc.) usually come into play.
Physical Delivery: The goods are cleared from customs and shipped to the buyer's warehouse.
